Digital or Offset Printing For Brochures?

Printing brochures is straight-forward, right?

It isn’t always the case… Many businesses wonder if they should print brochures via digital or offset printing, and with a few options to choose from, they need to find what fits their budget and need.

That begs the question too: is offset printing better than digital printing, or vice versa? It‘s not as simple as a yes or a no, but there are benefits of each and it’s important to decide which option will be best for you and your project. Lets talk about them…

Offset printing

Offset printing, also known as lithography, involves plates that are used to transfer an image onto a rubber blanket, and then to the printing surface.

This printing process is very fast and economical if you plan on printing large volumes - as the unit quantity increases, the unit cost decreases. This means there is a greater front end cost for offset printing projects, and it may be better to print digitally for small-run projects.

Though today’s digital presses are close to the cost/benefit ratio of offset printing for the highest quality work, they are not yet able to compete with the massive volume of an offset printing press.

Digital Printing

As mentioned above, digital printing will likely be your best bet for small-run projects you have. Because there are no plates to prep for printing, there is no set up fee attached with the project which makes for an easier and more economical start up.

The digital printing option is a great choice for small businesses seeking to maximize their ROI. When printing this way there is less waste and fewer variations, due to not having to balance ink and water during the press run.

Conclusion

Depending on the unit quantity, either option would work well, but offset is highly encouraged because of it’s amazing quality!
